Default strange shock asb

A rusty dirty chassi wiht wheels and tires followed me home a couple weeks ago. Started cleaning it up in order to find what usable parts are left. Four shock ashorbers with links and arms coated with dirt and grease. In cleaning up the shocks I discovered the Shock Arms are cast brass. Also the Bottoms/Base of each of the four are cast brass. Where did these come from? I assume they are not original 'cause I have never seeen a cast brasss base. Are they rebuildable? Input! Input! Any Fb'ers seen this before? If not original - any value?
