My father and I were putting his spindles on to the axle of his 31 PU. We had new bushings pressed in the spindles and honed and also new king pins. My question is, how tight should the spindle feel once installed? Both king pins needed to be tapped in with a little force to go through the axle(not sure if that is normal procedure). The spindle on the driver side moves quite a bit easier than the passenger side. The passenger side if very stiff. What could be wrong? The king pin moved freely in the passenger spindle before installation on the axle.

Could be a number of things, you raised a small burr in the bushing installing the king pin and it's rubbing on the king pin or you have too many thrust/shim washers installed or the grease slot has a burr. Take the one side off and check for burrs in the bushings and the grease slot. If the bushing and slot look and feel good, maybe try removing one of the washers.
The tight fitting in the axle is a good thing, means you have no slop from a loose lock bolt. |
