I need to get new cast front brake drums for my Woody. Instead of sending my drums/hubs to Bratton's or Snyder's for the drums to be removed and new drums installed, I was thinking of ordering NEW hubs and drums together. Even though this is expensive, it is getting ridiculous to send packages out by UPS now. I have not had good luck removing the drum studs with a hollow cutter lately either. The tool steel cutters do not last long.
My question is - has anyone direct experience with the new front hubs? I think that they are manufactured by MT out in California. I can keep the old hubs/drums for my next project - Speedster. Thanks, Vic |

I used a common metal hole saw to separate my hubs. I was not saving the steel drums and it took all of 15 min to do all 4. Then had my local machine shop swedge the new drums back as my press was not strong enough. Total cost 65.00
I purchased the drums from Mel gross. No need to buy the special bit if your not saving the drums any metal cheapo bit works Last edited by Mitch//pa; 01-12-2014 at 03:13 PM. |

Yes Vic, we are using them on some cars because we are either finding bearing race damage in the hub or the hub is bent where it cannot be safely trued. You will find the news ones satisfactory.
