My truck is the early 28 with the left hand e brake, It does not a date on the fire wall my engine number is *A30592* I believe it is suppose to have the multi disc clutch. I was doing some repairs and noticed that the clutch cover had been modified. It has about a 1" tab welded to it. Knowing that was not correct I posted a add on here and a member sent me a very nice original cover for the multi disc clutch. As I compare the two cover I realize that the original cover was correct for the multi disc clutch and someone added to it .I can only think someone has changed the transmission at some point, probably before the 70,s I guess what I am asking is how can I confirm that this transmission is not the original multi disc clutch/transmission. with the left hand e brake im sure there had to be some modification done. Thanks Billy

Look in side & see if the fly wheel has a cone shaped splined hub.. that is the multi-dick set up..By the looks of the modified cover, some one put the extension on it for the later size hole & you will find the later trans. etc also..

Just look through the cover hole to see if it has the pressure plate. If it still has the multiplate, which I doubt by the looks of the cover, then you will not see and pressure plate.

Mike V Florida,
The left cover plate: multi-disc, center: late 28 thru Feb. 29, right: March 29 thru 31. It is my understanding that the louvers were added to reduce vacuum in the bell housing caused by the rotating flywheel which could pull oil out of the rear main bearing cap ? Do not know if this is fact but sounds reasonable. Ron Last edited by Ron in Quincy; 01-12-2014 at 04:06 PM. Reason: Correct use date on cover plates. |
