Hi,
I purchased a rebuilt 1930-1931 round Stewart Warner Speedometer from a major rebuilder/supplier after my Northeast Speedo started making a strange noise. The Northeast always read SPOT ON, but the rebuilt replacement, reads 10% faster than my actual speed as checked by my GPS speedometer app and police speed billboards. (reads 60 at 54 mph) I checked my Northeast speedo many time on those police billboards and never questioned it since it was always spot on. A knowledgeable friend said the oval speedo can be adjusted. Can the round 1930 - 1931 speedo be adjusted? I have the standard drive unit and standard rear end in the car. I have not checked the odometer and just now figured I could check it against my Modern car's odometer over a particular run. Thanks |

This'll be interesting. Mine also reads low and I have not noticed any adjustment method but haven't really looked closely. I've been thinking about changing drive gears.

Bruce, yes the round SW speedo is adjustable. I needed to adjust mine as it was about 10mph off.
I didn't change the spring position. There is a magnet under / behind the mph wheel, that is what I adjusted. Like you, I used a GPS to check my speed, got mine to within 1-2mph. Took 2 tries. Good Luck |
