Default Top Dressing

Back in the 60's my Dad put a top on his Model A Sedan using tarpaulin for the material. We used to put some type of water sealant on it but don't remember what it was or where we would have bought it. We called it top dressing. Doe's anyone know where a person would get something like that today. Thanks Afordman31

I went to a canvas and tent store in Portland and got a gallon of waterproofing liquid. It smells the same as the old stuff I used to use, like you and your dad, but the new stuff is clear. It cost about $20. It's called CANVAK water resistant canvas preservative. I don't think the old black stuff is available any more. At least, I haven't been able to find it.

Hey, try that new Rustoleum NeverWet. Looks like it would be the answer. Like silicone waterproofing but better...hydrophobic solution.

Might not do much for appearance, but would be totally waterproof.

Your Dad might have used "Oilskin Dressing".
