Default My Model A day was Today

Well, actually it was yesterday, Sunday the 29th. It was raining most of the day Saturday, and I would never take my Model A out in the rain if I can help it. A Phaeton without side curtains is no fun in the rain. Besides that I was working at the fair grounds on Saturday to get ready for our swap meet and car show the next day.

I left home at 5 AM so I was able to take the freeway all the way to the fairgrounds and not have to worry about traffic. For the drive home I found a good scenic route along the parkway through town. This was probably the same parkway the guys drove on Model A day.

This was our best swap ever as far as finding good original Model A parts. All cars and parts are welcome, both for the show and swap, but this one was especially good for Model A parts. My front and back seat were loaded, so I had to drive back to one guy's house to get the 1955 Evinrude Speeditwin I bought. Also the car show was great. There was even a mint restored 1949 Studebaker Champion convertable there. It was sure nice to see so many mint restored and original cars, rather than a bunch of rods.

This IMHO was the perfect swap because is was small enough to be covered in a few hours and yet big enough to have a little bit of everything from toy trains to shop tools, and everything in between.

I even found a mint owner's manual for my 31 S/W Model A with flat firewall, and a 12 foot aluminum step ladder for $20.

A fellow club member offered to haul my 12 foot step ladder on his 1929 AA, but I managed OK, although a cop did give me the LOOK.
I forgot to bring my camera, so I took this picture after I got home. After getting loaded I think I could have squeezed the 25 H.P. Evinrude in the front seat.

Yes, that was my dad's 91 Olds with 217,000 miles and only the crank sensor has been replaced. For modern cars that has been the best and it still gets 32 MPG on the highway and doesn't use oil. I need that tall step ladder to trim some trees around my house.

As far as driving in the rain, I've done it more times than I like, but it wasn't raining when I left home.
I just don't care to be uncomfortable by choice.
