Default Coolant Additive

Just spent most of the day on the FB reviewing posts on cooling additives and issues experienced.
Well I’m now that confused I might just use MILK.
Here’s my story:- Decided to give the old girl a performance boost, 5.5 Head, new heavy duty Radiator & leak less water pump. Job completed, filled up the block & radiator from our rain water tank & off for a test run. What a difference, I should have done it sooner. After a few runs I re-tightened the head & decided it was time to do something about coolant additive to combat corrosion. That’s when the leaks started, water pump gasket & head gasket. Pulled the water pump installed a new gasket, re-tightened the head and refilled with tank water & Nulon Green Concentrate. After a couple of runs leaks are back. Flushed the system & refilled with tank water.
So far no leaks. After reading all the pros & cons on additives I’m reluctant to try anything. After all my Dad used to fill his old timber truck & A-model with anything he could lay his hands on when in the bush.
Any comments anyone ?.
