Question Cross Country Carburetor?

Any opinions on whether this carb is worth anything? It's dirty, but looks good on the outside. I never heard of that brand?

Check with a carb guy as I don't think you will be able to get parts to rebuild it.

That's the aftermarket parts-store Marvel Scheibler carb. Real simple, runs and idles surprisingly well. You have the all-important irreplaceable choke driver, usually broken or missing. You also have the filter inlet fitting. Filthy but nice. You can get a gasket set, nothing more. I have a bucket full of them, I won't insult you by telling you what I paid each, but it wouldn't buy you dinner.

It does look like an MS , but, I can't read the name on it, can you ? I like it and I would certainly keep it and try to get it into good shape. I have several MS carburetors but none have a name on them like yours has.

The name on the side is "cross country" like in the title of his post. I don't know about them, but if nothing else cleaned up it would make a nice display price.

Be careful cleaning it: that "cross-country" logo is a decal !

I seem to recall Sears Roebuck using the slogan Cross Country for the auto parts they sold quite a few years ago.

As mentioned, it is a Marvel carb. Sears slapped their 'CrossCountry' trademark on a lot of auto aftermarket stuff.

The choke driver for that carb is pretty easy to deal with.Take an old 1/4 drive deep socket the same size as the shaft,(9/32 comes to mind)and cut the part off that isn't hexed inside.Bore a new repro driver to the outside size of the socket, and squish it in there with a vise.I guess you could put in some JB weld or the like if you're in love with that kind of stuff,it isn't going to move anywhere. You will never see the modification.
