I was searching the auction site for parts for a project (non Ford) and this turned up. I thought some one here might be interested. I have a hunch it will get very expensive.

It might be over priced, but someone wants it that bad, and is willing to pay that much for it.

P.T. Barnum is given credit for the saying " there is a sucker born every minute " ! Even though it was coined in the mid 1800's it still has valid meaning today !

Oh we have been watching ! It does not mean that is what they are worth, it means there are fools bidding with their hearts and not their brains !

I cannot verify if the face plate is original, looks way too fresh, but does not look like an A&L reproduction faceplate. Also the crystal has been replaced with a new crystal. But I have never seen that much exposed thread where the stem screws on to the gauge??? Way too much $$$ for one that has been molested.
Also the condition of the pouch is not comparable with the condition of the gauge!!!

and what is wrong with all the bidders going to Hershey where there is an abundance of cheap Model A parts ? I bought two of the gauges last year, one without a pouch in excellent condition for 75 dollars and one with a leather pouch for 90 dollars ! It is time people realized that Ebay is a rip off and there are lots of places like Hershey and Carlisle where the parts are much cheaper ! Ebay should be a last resort !

Yes you must have missed them because they were there !
I spend 3 days at Hershey every year and I save a lot of money. Often enough to pay for my trip. There were more cheap Model A parts there this year than ever before. We watched one Ebay seller buy out a vendor to resell the parts on Ebay. When relating this story we were told that it is very common ! Al |

Hershey might sound cheap sometimes, but being able to see the part in your hand is good... , but how much do you spend to go... gas, room, food, etc, etc,,,for a part that would be available on line, plus shipping? But being able to hold that part and seeing it in person is good.... plus just being there is 90% of the experience....

If you are going to sell it you will get more for it on Ebay and you don't have to rent a space or leave the comfort of your home ! You will indeed have an audience that likely shops on Ebay rather than travel to the major shows. To sell use Ebay, to buy use Hershey and if you can't, Ebay may be the best alternative but be prepared to pay a higher price
for the convenience ! Al |
