Hey everyone, I am visiting san luis for a week and was wondering if anything interesting was happening, any events, tours, or just anyone who likes to show and talk about their cars. I'm 24 and always interested in learning anything I can about old cars, my girlfriend and I just recently bought a '30 coupe so if anyone wants to meet up send me a message. Thanks!
P.s. I'm very interested in learning how to rebuild an engine, so if anyone wants to teach, I would be grateful to learn from a person and not the internet. -Sean |

I think Brassworks is in the area...that would be a site to see (they make Model T and A radiators)...I think they are in Paso Robles...or were anyway. On another note, here are a few sites to see: Cal Poly, Hearst Castel, San Luis Bay Inn, Avila Beach, Pirates Cove...Ah Pirates Cove ![]() There is a great Santa Maria Bar-B-Q place in Arryo Grande or Nipomo (Name anyone?); there is the Far Western in Guadalupe if you like a good steak... Hmmmmmmmm...You are going to need more than a week! Have a great time in San Luis Obispo!...and "Go Mustangs!" Pluck Last edited by Steve Plucker; 03-17-2013 at 12:00 PM. |

On your way North of SLO, there is a restored old auto repair garage on the main street in Morro Bay, pretty much in the center of the old town. Its a small town, easy to find everything. . It had a Model A in it last time I was there. The guy has a collection of old signs, cars, hood ornaments, etc. Next door to it is one of the two locals bars for a good time in the evening. The other bar is across the street. Tourist stuff is down by the harbor. Further up the coast is Cayucos, a nice small town with some good eats. North of Cayucos the drive gets really pretty..

I lived in Pismo Beach, in 1983, while working at the nuke in San Luis Obispo. Haven't been back, but hope to in the next year or two. My favorite place was Harry's of Pismo Beach and it's still there. Morrow Bay was a great place to eat seafood, if you can find abalone chowder or just abalone, try it. Can't remember the name of the town south west of Santa Maria, has the best BBQ lobster. Nipomo Swap Meet was big when I was there and have been told it's even bigger. You'll find plenty of things to do down there. I do remember the hot tubbs, as I drove to work each morning. |

Hi Sean,
A word of advice from Arroyo Grande, just south of San Luis, don't believe everything you read on line! We're not ALL oooold folks over here. Maybe the heat of the valley got to some people...... Just wanted to let you know the Cuesta Crankers are doing an "exercise your Model A" trip to the Firestone Brewery in Paso Robles this Thurs. You are welcome to come along and/or meet up with us for more Model A stuff before/after, whatever fits your schedule. Will send you a PM with contact details. Have a great time here and welcome to the Central Coast! |
