Adjustable-Lifter Tension
I recently came across a set of nice, used, lightweight adjustable lifters. They appear to be in better condition than the ones in my car right now. Anyway, I was wondering, how much tension should there be between the screw and the body of the lifter so they don't back off in service? The three I've "played with" thus far seem pretty tight. I stuck a screwdriver through the holes and went at them with a 7/16 wrench and they seemed quite snug but should they be tighter? Should they be nearly unmovable?

Re: Adjustable-Lifter Tension
Don't play with them more than needed as you are loosing up the threads by doing so. They should be reasonably tight, but not so tight they are difficult to adjust when in place in the engine.

Re: Adjustable-Lifter Tension
Thanks for your response; I realize this is probably a pretty stupid question . Yeah, I only fiddled with one or two of them just to see if they had any tension in them and they seem to, though all of the screws appear to be all the way down in the lifter bores.

Re: Adjustable-Lifter Tension
Tension on adjusting screw on adjustable lifters should be 25- inch lbs, check with small torque wrench.

Re: Adjustable-Lifter Tension
I reject them when they move with less then 25 inch lbs. I understand Reds will sell you new adjusting bolts which often fixes the "loose" lifter.
