Default Motor number confusion?

The number on my block is CAR9323. According to the back of Les Andrew’s book I think the engine may have been built in January 1927. The car is titled as a 1931. Can someone please enlighten me.
Thank you very much.

That would be an April 1930 Canadian number.

Thanks so much. Do you know if the number on the frame should read the same? I understand you can’t see it unless the body is removed. We’re only the engines made in Canada or the whole car?

Hello, is your car a Canadian built car ? They usually have square head screws on the interior.Model A s are known not to have the same engine as when new due to the long service life most of them had , finding a “matching number “Model A is rare,I have a late 31 but it’s engine is a 1930 number. When in that era you could have gone to Sears and get a rebuilt engine, some indication how common engine changes were.

Hello again, it’s nice to have the numbers match to original as you have,if the engine was changed, the original number was supposed to be restamped on the replacement engine but that seems to be rarely done on most of the Model A I have seen.Non matching numbers still cause some grief when bringing a car from out of state and the title no longer matches the engine and Penn dot wants a tracing of the number. In worse cases the state will issue a special vin plate to be placed on the car. A friend of mine had a 39 Lincoln Zephyr that had that , was brought in from New York a lot of paperwork on that.
