Generator tests
Brush wire broke (was rubbed I think) Repaired wire now can't get it to charge am bypassing the cutout. Tested for amps between hot wire and post, nothing. What is the procedure for testing generator issues. Or can you point me to a good article on the subject. And I have read Les Andrews. How do you test field coils, armature, etc. Thanks

Re: Generator tests
Remove the band and smell for burned windings and look for thrown solder from the commutator. Lift the adjustable brush off the commutator and slip a piece of paper between the brush and commutator. Connect a 6 volt battery charger + to the generator body and - to the adjustable brush. The amp meter should show about 4 amps. The armature needs a growler to be tested. How long did the generator run with the broken wire? If more than a couple minutes, it probably fried the armature or field windings.
