Doe's anyone have any good troubleshooting tips for checking the horn switch on the steering wheel. My 30 Coupe has a button that was added on the side panel near the cowl light but I would like to figure out if the problem is wiring or switch. How would you read the wires going up the column to the button. The horn is in working order. Thanks for any ideas. A-Jay

A-Jay.
The button is attached to a rod going into the light switch at the bottom of the column. You will need to locate where the wire going to your axillary button is coming from. Be sure all the wires are in good condition. The most likely place for trouble is the rod at the bottom. To remove the rod you'll need to lower the steering column so that the rod can be removed from the top. That's just the quick of it. Others will have more ideas. Good Luck! |

Don gave instructions for the horn rod. To check the contact plate just ground the center spring loaded contact and see if the horn blows OK. Check the other side of the contact plate for any stray wires shorting to another terminal. If the horn never blew, the upper ground contact may just be dirty or corroded. Try pressing the horn button and roll it around as you press to see if you can get it to ground and blow the horn. That worked on one of my cars after setting for years. |
