Question '35, separate upper from lower hood section?

Any heads up's / tricks / hints on separating the upper from lower hood section on '35? want to run just the upper sections this season. Hood paint nice & don't want to mess it up. Any pointers appreciated.

This approach worked for me on 36 hoods:

You have to get the long hinge rod to move back and forth freely and break the rust free.
I bought a Pin Punch set from HF and got the hinge rods to move back and forth:
Pin sizes in the set: 1/8 in., 3/16 in., 1/4 in., 5/16 in. and 3/8 in.

I think the 3/16 one is what works but don't remember. Less than $10.

Carpet for your workbench (or floor) so you can wrestle with it and not mangle the paint is a good idea.
Liberal use of PB Blaster or WD40 helps once the hinge rod moves.
You will probably need a plain steel rod from the hardware store to drive the hinge rod completely out in one direction. I didn't have much luck trying to pull it out.
Go slow and work the hinge rod back and forth and it will eventually come out.

You can use the new hinge rod to tie bailing wire or whatever you come up with to keep it from "flapping". Someone make a set of leather belt buckles that secure the hood tops with stainless that looks really nice.

Good luck

No need to remove the hood. get punch set as barn find suggests. oil the hinges well and get yourself a helper to hold the hood side up while you get the hinge pin tapped out a little, toward the back. When the hinge pin moves enough to where you can attach a drill motor and attach it to the rod and spin and pull it out.

What worked on my old 34 hood was just like you were told above, but after I got it out an inch we chucked the rod in a cordless drill and spun it some while pulling it out. Came out real nice surprisingly!
I type slowwwww, Lawson beat me too it!

bf,
When you reassemble the hood think about replacing the steel rods with brazing rods of the same dia.

Those rods are 1/4" and Drake sells stainless replacements.
