Default Separating driveshaft from pinion gear

I am in the process of rebuilding my differential and have run into a problem. The pinion/driveshaft is out of the differential and I am trying to separate them.
I have used my big gear puller (12 inches) and cannot get it to budge. Does anyone have any tricks to get this apart?

They make a special puller to remove the pinion. It actually looks like two square, or round steel plates plates that bolt over the gear. As you tighten the bolts it pulls the gear of the shaft. Look at Snyders website and it shows one. If you belong to a local club you might check with them as they may have tools they loan to club members.

Just searched our forum and there is another method that a couple of people stated worked good fro them. It referenced placing the axle into a pipe that is longer than the axle and pound the open end of the pipe onto hard object like a cement floor. Never tried it but if you can't get the correct puller that might work. They also stated it would not work on a 1928. Couldn't tell you why as I am not very knowledgeable on 1928 / 1929 differences from 30 / 31

I have done the pipe method. Three thumps and pinion was in my hand.

It also works on the steering worm of the two-tooth. Maybe 5 thumps.

J,
When I installed my Mitchell all I did was leave the nut flush with the end of the driveshaft and rapped it with a lead hammer. Driveshaft popped right out. Dale

I use a kr Wilson puller. If you have any of the A guys around you that are kr Wilson collectors they probably have one.
Indispensable!

Success. I used the pipe/big hammer method to separate the pinion from the driveshaft.
