30 roadster seat springs
I just got my new seat springs for the roadster from Snyder's. Is there supposed to be a wood frame between the seat riser and the springs?

Re: 30 roadster seat springs
Yes. The springs are fastened to the wood frame. The upolstery (seat cover) is also fastened to the wood frame. That assembly then sits on the seat riser.

Re: 30 roadster seat springs
I thought there were no wood frames on open car seat cushions or seat backs. I know on 28's and 29's there is no wood frame on the springs. I don't have any 30/31 open cars, but I do have a 29 phaeton and 28 roadster and they don't have wood seat frames on them. The upholstery just fastens to the metal channel at the bottom of the springs. There are wood frames on closed cars like my 28 coupe. On closed cars, there is a wood frame and the springs are attached to the wood frame and the upholstery is fastened to the wood frame. I could be wrong about 30/31 open cars, but I am pretty sure there is no wood frames on the cushion or seat back. There is a wood lattice type structure fastened to the seat riser at the bottom and the beltrail wood at the top that the seatback upholstered springs fasten to with several metal hooklike brackets fastened to the wood framework.

Re: 30 roadster seat springs
My 30 Roadster had no wood frame. It did have one wood support that ran down the middle of the seat frame from door to door. It was screwed to an angle plate that was inside the bottom seat pan on each side. This wood was about three inches wide and used to support the middle of the seat spring. At least that's s the way mine is

Pretty much wood everywhere except under the seat spring which was covered with thick horse hair padding, a cotton covering and the vinyl look alike upholstery. |

Re: 30 roadster seat springs
"MAYBE" the wood was not used, in order to LOWER the seating HEIGHT???
