Hi, I have read the forums on this quail, and still am lost. I am in hopes someone can tell me wht I have. What I do know is this. It belonged to my grandfather, or his father. My grandfather passed away a couple years ago, were cleaning out the barn and came across this. I have been selling stuff no one wanted. If someone could tell me what I have, as far as year and model this goes too, if its a repoduction etc. Thanks for the help, and for this forum I found doing a google search. I have added photos.
This is what is on the bottom of it. Stanco, F-2603, Pat. No;s.1662909, 1,469,567, The Stant MFG, Co, Connersville, Ind Weighs 1.2 pounds |

You have the top half of an original quail. The bottom half has been broken off, the part that attaches to the radiator neck.

What you need is a complete orginial flip top radiator cap , and use the base with rest of parts. Yes it can be done .. I was in the same boat .I had bought a mint bird cap like what part you have there for $125.00 and then a flip top cap for a motor meter $65.00 ,use the base and had it chromed. All in all i have $500.00 into it.Well under what a restored mint bird goes for today.

Your original is a 30-31 top half, broken off it appears at the hinge. I can well imagine in earlier times these were busted off numerous cars in parking lots by trophy hunters ... leaving the victim with a useless base to throw in the garbage. For this reason I sometimes wonder if an original base might fetch as much, or more, than the top? |

With the condition it is in and the parts missing, I would think you are not going to be able to ask more than 50 or 60 dollars and you should look at any offer close to that. I bought one complete that needed replating on Ebay for 100 dollars and all the numbers are the same. Good luck but unfortunately you do not have a treasure on your hands !
