I have a new handle from Sacramento Vintage Ford. My question is, do I need to cut the shaft shorter? And how tight do you tighten the nut? Any help would be great.

yes depending on the application you might have to cut the shafts and maybe run some threads down on the shaft. DO NOT over tighten the acorn nut there is a lock that you bend up against the nut to keep it from coming loose.
