I hope that you found in your garage parked ! That's a good reason to check older tires. But one thing you got your money's worth

A good wrap of duct tape should see those tyres good for a few thousand more miles.

Bert went through my mind when I posted that!
One minor point, though. Bert was from NZ, not here.

Looks like you did that one just about right. I don't think I'd even go around the block again
On that one. |

The tires on my 29 coupe were put on in 1977 and still look good. The car is stored in a heated garage with no sun exposure.

Find your paper work on the tires on the warranty. The tread wear is probably pro-rated and you can get some money back from the dealer!

Getting 45 years out of a tire could make me settle for the pair of 80% tread goodyears I saw for sale at the recent Portland swap meet for a $100.!

The time is not now, it was a long time ago. Likely the rest of the tires require replacement also. Wayne

I know they say to replace every few years but a careful, visual inspection is a good practice a few times a season.
In 2002 I bought a tudor with Firestone tires on it that were installed around 1973 (Seller restored the car in '73- '74.) I looked these over very carefully each season - no cracks, dry marks or other signs they were more than a couple seasons old! I even dismounted & remounted at least a couple of them that I can recall, again not stiff, etc. - strange. A few years later they were still on the car when we sold it. A few years ago we also bought a Packard with a 1980s restoration and firestone WWW tires with less than 100 miles on them, nice on the outside BUT cracked heavily on the inside out of sight unless you were under the car. Hurt to replace those but they had to go. I wonder how well the newest rubber will wear? The roadster has BW Universals on it, an inexpensive tire, but so far so good, we'll see...

When I bought my Pickup, it had 20 year old Firestones on it. The tires only had about 1,500 miles on them, the spare had never been on the ground.
The vehicle had been out in the Southern California sun for most of those 20 years before I bought it, therefore, even though the tires had lots of tread, they also had lots of weather cracks in the sidewalls. The spare, however, had been encased in one of the tire covers and was/is still good as new.

My father has saved worse looking tires in his "I might need this someday" pile.
