Default What's that noise part II

A few months back I determined that my #3 cylinder was making a ticking noise, and that it was either a split piston skirt or a broken ring, based on shorting out the individual cylinders and the noise going away when I did that on #3. Today I was driving the coupe again and wondering what would happen if I just played with spark advance and retard a little bit.

Wellsir, at about the 9:00 position the ticking went away (which it does when the engine warms up anyway, but the engine was still cold).

SO! My question is: does this change my original assumption about the cause of the ticking?
