Ernie, I don't know about the Volvo OD but I'd sure like to know how often you drive your '46 at speeds around 85 MPH... I don't think our '47 rag top, with a done up Flathead, could sustain that kind of speed for very long and I'm too chicken to try it. Vic

Hi Vic, not by choice my friend, I live 3 mi from I 35 near okla. 85 is just

putzing around to the trucks that race around up n down here. My 8cm has lots of heart but runs out of air pretty quick, I need to get better shocks n more life Ins when I boldly go where I shouldn,t, ernie n tx

Hey, Ernie, perhaps jumping onto the English NSRA forum might yield a better response?

The Volvo is one of the better overdrive set ups but has to be adapted. I think there is only one guy that specializes in them for the early ford applications. I last saw information on the Model A forum for it but there are a bunch of different units available for them that bolt in.

Thanks Kerby,I will look into that option. Tom T you raise a good point, perhaps I was a little lax in my thought process, I am a first gen from Wales and English speaking is not our First choice?? (:> ernie

Have you thought about going to a higher speed rear (3.25) along with a wider range three speed (29 tooth cluster?) That combination is in my long term plans. Just not a racing set up.

The Volvo is a great option. There are a few guys that do it around the US.
Gear Vendors also makes something for the early V8's, but is pretty expensive, I think.
The 3rd pic is of a conversion I've done using a GV O/D. This one is open drive

Hi Pete good point , yes however my 46 coupe closegd drive has only a few options , columbia, 3.54 gears other ods, and using a od tranny. I lke the putting around gears until it is hwy time , thus the mitchell and other od,s sound like a good option, still looking , thanks for the info. ernie n tx

In this neck of the woods, folks are using Toyota Supra/Cressida/HiLux 5 speeds with O/D top gear. FlatAttack Racing do a kit for around $420 Aussie, but requires change to open drive.
