What is the easiest technique to drain and change the rear differential on a 1953 Ford Custom Line ? Thanks You....

Pull out the pumpkin? Drain oil (drain plug on bottom?). Remove tires and brake drums. Unbolt the flange that holds the axle to the housing. Pull axles, then unbolt center section and pull out. Not like a TBird which has the Dana in 55/56 but similar to a 57. Don't forget to unbolt the driveshaft.
Wagons may be different, not sure if they had a Dana.

Could also invest in a hand operated suction gun from your favorite parts store. Though, removing third member may be prudent to extricate/check the residual gunk left at the bottom for debris.

Both of these assume the original rear alxe to the vehicle. If the rear axle has been swapped then we need pictures to identify what you are working on before we can give definitive advice. |
