Starter? Battery?

Drove my roadster down to the grocery store, picked up a sub, and tried to start 'er up . . . nothing! At first I thought, stuck starter because it's happened before. I rocked her back in 2nd trying to pop the starter gear, but didn't hear anything, and that didn't do the trick. I checked the battery, and it seemed ok . . . lights on, horn worked. So, now what? Got towed home. I was thinking maybe I could start it with a hand crank? Would that work? Any thoughts out there? Thanks!!
