motor break in

hello, it is often said pour the last qt of oil down the distrib shaft hole. it seems to me that that should be done with the head off and distr shaft out -yes or no?

if the head is on and oil is poured down distr hole that oil will just go down valve shafts and pool above the piston tops- yes or no?
