Default Generator 3rd arm brush size?

Curious minds want to know.

Why is the 3rd arm a smaller brush than the other two? I would think Henry would find it easier to install and inventory the brushes if they were the same size.

What would happen if all 3 brushes were installed with the size of the larger brushes?

I've seen all 3 installed the same size, though it's not correct. The third brush supplies the current to feed the field windings, and this is fewer amps than the generator needs to put out, so the brush can be thinner. Every penny saved adds up, is the only reason I can think of for it to be thinner.
