Default Tic-Tic-Tic...

Aunt Martha starts fine, but I get a mild tic-tic-tic that usually goes away after a few miles. Sounds like its coming from the passenger side maybe. Is it a valve or tranny or ???

When I had that sound, it turned out to be a loose valve seat.

I would first check valve clearance but those tiks can be difficult or impossible to find. Had one that survived 2 rebuilds, numerous tests, inspections, etc. Never could find it.

Rob,
After a stay in re-hab, I came home with cheep-cheep-cheep, in my left ear, sounds like a tiny bird. At first, I though it was coming from some electronic GIZMO in the house, The Dog "sed"---"I don't hear anything"
After another stay in re-hab, I came home with a "floater" in my Left eye??

should be able to tell the speed of the tick and whats making it:

idle it as low as possible and see if the tick tick follows the crankshaft speed or valve speed (4xslower) and take note if its constant or intermittent.

If the noise goes away, doubtful it's SERIOUS. "Maybe" just pretend you don't hear it?(HUH?)
