Default Good book for rebuild

I have bought a few books on the flathead, but I am looking for a good book on the actual assembly steps, bolt torques, etc. Is the Ron Bishop book the one or is there another? I am mechanically inclined, but I have not assembled an engine before. Know the basics, just don't want to screw it up and I don't know anybody locally that does. I am sure there are a lot of guys that know, but I don't know them.

I was thinking about a book too like Engine Blueprinting by Rick Voeglin or Engine Builder's Handbook by Tom Monroe.

I am going to assemble a 8ba, fairly stock hopefully starting next week.

So far, I have the following books:
Rebuilding the Famous Ford Flathead by Ron Bishop
How to Build Ford Flathead V-8 Horsepower by George McNicholl
Flathead Ford V-8 by Joe Abbin
How to Build a Traditional Ford Hot Rod by Mike Bishop and Vern Tardel

All else I can think of is JWL"s book and Tex Smith.

Add Ron Halloran's book Nostalgia to the list. For torque specs., etc., get an old Motors Manual or Ford Shop Manual. Good Luck!

Also, if you can get hold of the 3 article series by Don Francisco entitled "Building a flathead the Right Way" in Hot Rod Mag, starting in April 1956, and The Ford "Repair Manual for Ford & Mercury V8 engines. 6/18/1947. Although this covers '37-'48 the steps are pretty much the same except for the rod bearing type.

All book's mentioned above. I think I have most of the book's on the Flathead. JWL's and Ron's deff. must haves. The more book's you have the more references you got.

I'm also very lucky to live near the living breathing Flathead encyclopedia, Walt Dupont

For a general rebuild I recommenced getting an old motors manual from the early 50's. This will have all the info you need.

In addition to those already mentioned, I really liked 'Ford Flathead V-8 Builder's Handbook 1932-1953' by Frank Oddo.

Check the Ron Bishop book to make sure there is not a misprint of the 8BA firing order on page 69 where he has the firing order as 15846372. It should be 15486372. I found that out the hard way many years ago when using it.

Vern Tardel and I just finished a new book, "How to Rebuild & Modify Ford Flathead V-8 Engines," published by Motorbooks. I'm selling it to Ford Barners for $36.00, including Priority Mail shipping. If you're interested, send me a check and I will shoot a book to you straightaway.
