I think I need to adjust my clutch pedal free play/travel.
If the pedal has too much free play--over 1.25/1.50 inch travel--do I shorten or lengthen the clevis/rod? |

your adjustment seems about right, free play should be about 1 to 1 1/2 inches , is the trans grinding when going in to gear when stopped? if so try about 1 inch free play

Thanks all who replied. West coast: I did the Van Pelt test on it: Van Pelt Quote: Do the clutch test....engine idling, trans in neutral, clutch pedal up. Push clutch all the way to the floorboard and count to 20 slowly. Then carefully try to shift into first gear. If you get ANY gear crunch, the clutch is not adjusted correctly and is still spinning the trans gears. Looks like I Need to adjust. |

Adjusted from about 2" to about 1". No real change.
Beginning of ride--everything almost normal. Chatter is minimal. As the ride progresses (after about 8-10 miles)--much more clutch chatter taking off in 1st gear and the occasional 1st Gear crunch after 20-second idle as described by Mac Van Pelt. Should I bring the play to 1.5 inches rather than 1 inch? Going to tighten up the engine steady rods and go with new front motor mounts before I go all out and replace the clutch, throwout bearing and pilot. I have a new FortWayne Clutch sitting on the shelf. |

Tony why don't you fix it now before the season starts as you surely will be fighting this then & eventually will need to use that clutch on the shelf kicking yourself for not doing it before. Just my thoughts. Been there.
