Rear Brake Lining Wear

What do you make of this?
I did a brake job last winter and decide to check my work.
I removed the REAR drums yesterday and noticed that I’m getting some real nice even wear on the driver side.
On the passenger side I saw something unexpected. It’s worn fairly evenly along half of the lining. Not the left half or right half but the front half, away from the backing plate.

The attached picture is not my lining. I tried to mock up an image as an example. The area highlighted in black somewhat illustrates my wear pattern.

I'll try to take a real picture.
