Default Plugs to use

I know the original plugs used in an A were Champions, but they are quite expensive. I am now running with champion replacements, but they are cad plated, and somehow, I've never gotten used to cad plugs in my old cars. I like to run NOS vintage plugs because of the older names on them and the fact they are not cad plated. I have an original set of AC's that have a 1/2" reach and wonder if I can use them. the engine on this beast is a Model B with a Model A head. Since the plugs are over the valves, they won't hit the piston, but anyone have an opinion? I know, we all have opinions...

With the size of the chambers in an "A" head, I doubt you could create a problem, even if you tried.

I removed one of the champion plugs and stuck a stick in the chamber. Almost 2" from the block to the top of the head.

I have been using the same set of 3X plugs for 40 years, if you don't have mixture or oil problems they last a long time, at one time I tried some other brand plugs I got a yard sales in attempts to "save" the 3x plugs, but the car ran the best on the 3X plugs,---if they work better and last longer do they really cost that much more??

If you have mixture problems and the plugs get black and go "bad" keep using the cheap plugs ---i got 2 free sets of 3X plugs that way, burned them clean in my car, now i have a lifetime supply

It's really not a question of trying to find cheap plugs, I just find the number of names of old plugs to be fascinating... I try to find the old plugs in sets of 4.

I also have a collection of old 7/8 plugs used with the model A. Most are too cold for my use but still collectable. I've still got a set of the last Champion C4 plugs that were cad plated instead of black like the earlier version. I got tem around 1960-61 ,they are two piece and still plenty hot.I replaced them with new W18 champions. Cad plating doesn't bother me.
