Here's a few more shots from the Gilmore museum.

First is Henry's first Model A.

Directly across the street from the Model A building is the Franklin building with the 2nd picture showing a Franklin streamlined car and the 3rd picture showing the aircooled Franklin motor and wood frame.

The 4th picture shows the first gasoline powered automobile, built by Benz. I'd sure like to own one of these.

5th and 6th are pictures from the motorcycle building.

And of course no museum could be complete without a beautiful 1950 Studebaker Commander.

Here are some more pictures from the Gilmore museum.

The first is a beautiful Ariel Square Four, I think it was 1952. 4 vertical cylinders with 2 counter rotating crankshafts make a well balanced engine.

The 2nd picture is a pressed steel frame NSU.

The 3rd is a fairly rare white BMW R-60 with a Stieb sidecar.

The 4th is a child's electric car.

The 5th and 6th pictures are a Pierce Arrow truck as I recall. Notice the finned radiator tanks to help with the cooling.

The last picture is a set of wooden tires built during the rubber shortage of WWII. Mr. Gilmore made these and the sign says his workers liked them because they could hear the boss coming from 1/2 mile away.

It is in hickory corners michigan, google gilmore car museum ...there are lots of pics on there web site.

What was interesting to me about the Gilmore is that I could only find two trucks in the various buildings; the Pierce Arrow Tom posted above and a '50 Ford Truck in the service bay of the gas station.

Yet the Model A Museum had at least five "trucks" and more depending on what your definition of a truck is. Seems the trucks don't get as much attention as the cars do.

Sure looks like a great museum and a good way to spend a day. In the first set of pics there is a motorbike that doesn't look like anything I'm familiar with, would that be an early teens FN ? Were there any other Studebakers ?

The only other Stude I recall was a 1949 sedan.

The Ariel was a beautiful bike, as were several others in the building.
About 20 years ago I saw an Ariel Square Four advertised for $800. I thought about it, but may not have had the money, or more likely just thought too long and didn't get it.

Ariel's are nice bikes, had one. I meant the in-line 4 in the first set of pics.

I don't recall what the sign said it was called. I like all antique bikes, but those little inline 4's are really my favorites.

I was suprised that there was not a rope around that first 1903 Model A Ford. They must let you get right up to the cars and look. My son and his family are going this weekend. Their excited.

That's one thing I really liked about this museum. You weren't held 10 feet away by ropes.
Be sure to arrive early and wear comfortable shoes.
