Re: the build

I'd experienced a catastrophic failure of one of the new repop fiber gears just a few years ago. DESTROYED a fairly fresh (less than 1000 miles) Merc engine (1940).
I use ONLY NOS gears - both...

(3) "roller" rims and tires 36 - 39 NICE stuff!

Yes, another bargain as I won't ship.
All three for $50. Tires are nice, not rotted. Wheels are VERY nice.

I'm located minutes from the Illinois / Wisconsin border.

'39 -'40 FRONT CHASSIS super nice

This is one heck of a nice (complete) front chassis.
Brakes and drums are good. King pins were replaced a few years ago.
Steel is smooth, not pitted.

You could actually install this entire...

'39 Deluxe hood - a beauty!

This one is NICE guys. I'm thinning out the sheet metal stash. Priced cheap as I won't ship.
Braces are straight, threads are good. The sheet metal is SUPER STRAIGHT.

I'm located minutes from...

Re: Vacuum Bleeder?

I prefer a pressure bleeder. A good quality system can be found for under $100. Making an adapter is simple.

Re: 1940 Ford Convertible Wire Loom Routing

Just for clarity... ALL convertibles had these brackets and were bolted to the frame in this area forward of the dash.
Why some brackets had a hole in the left side and others did not requires...

Re: looking at a restored 36 ford coupe

I agree that IF a guy buys a car and breaks even when selling, the cost of ownership was quite reasonable. It was not "free" as it costs monies to store and maintain, insure, etc. Still, the fun...

Re: 1940 Ford Convertible Wire Loom Routing

Brackets are there of course - they, as you know, mount the body to the frame. NO hole in either side.

Re: 1940 Ford coupe spare tire brace

Yes, it is structural. How much support it offers? I have no clue.

Re: 1940 Ford Convertible Wire Loom Routing

I just went out and looked at the '40 convertible I am currently restoring. I had to look as the CRS is setting in. Anyway, NO hole in this one.

Re: 1940 Ford Convertible Wire Loom Routing

Well, yes, not exactly like other models but it works.

I tend to think Fords routing in that area was not of the best design - too much going on in a limited area.
Still, it works.

The few...

Re: 1940 Ford Convertible Wire Loom Routing

I route the wires just like any of the coupes I've restored. There is, as you surely know, a small wire clamp that fastens to the frame and keeps the loom in place.
I have restored (5) '40...

Re: 1940 Ford Convertible Wire Loom Routing

I am guessing what you are describing as "L" shaped bracket" is the dash panel mount to the frame. Yes?

Re: 46 rear brake line pictures

Here are some "before" (prior to restoration) pictures of an unmolested '46. These should help you replicate what Ford did.

Re: 1940 Deluxe Convertible Top Cover

It did not originally tuck. Rather, it was snapped at the top edge of the rear backrest.

Re: Carburator or Fuel Pump stock V8 Flathead

From the symptoms you'd described, this is not a coil issue.
I'd replace the accelerator pump.

Re: 1938 Woody Transmission Cover

Station wagon pan is the same. Be VERY aware that actually obtaining a pan from Bradley has a success rate near zero.

Re: Gas Tank for 40 Convertible Steel or Poly

I have used Drakes steel tank a time or two. Good quality but they are NOT the same width as an authentic tank.
I have always installed with the body off.

Re: 1939 (not 40) heater firewall template needed

My memory fails me all too often. I'd suggest you speak with Larry Caplan. He knows heaters.

Re: best source for parts/rebuild brake cylinder

NAPA for a NEW master. They are beautiful and actually are the concourse correct casting with the CORRECT cap. As I recall, about $50 all in.

Re: 1939 (not 40) heater firewall template needed

It's been a bit but from what I recall those appear to be correct. The right side is pretty much an unobtanium part.

Re: 1939 (not 40) heater firewall template needed

Chris, you are of course correct. The wagon and convertible ducts were much different than the closed cars.
