Re: 1941 Ford bumper end pieces
You'll need a longer bumper bolt as well. I have a set I'm not using, but the shipping from Australia will make your eyes water.....

Re: Break-in gone wrong!
Pardon me for what might be a dumb comment.
I'm putting a 59A together at the moment - my first engine and not yet ready to run. I fitted 'new' Mellings oil pump that was a different configuration...

Re: seat belts 40 coupe
Not wishing to hijack the thread, but does anyone have an idea on how to stop the belts falling behind the seat when it's folded forward?

Re: Dipstick Length
I'm not restoring the vehicle, it's a replacement engine for driver.
So, with the open pan on flat ground, 5 quarts of liquid should give me in the neighbourhood of the full mark?

Dipstick Length
I can recall reading that there are different flathead dipstick/tube combinations that could result in wrong oil level readings.
I'm currently putting a 59A flathead together. I don't know it's...

Re: How far should I go with my '41 flathead
I have a 41 SD convert and going down the path of building a 59 motor for it. The idea of a modest rebuild can become a rabbit hole real quick.
Check out the 1948 movie 'Mr Blandings builds his...

Re: 1941 Ford Convertible Rear Seat
There is a wood brace that runs across the width of the car. I recall hearing someplace that it is a structural member - not sure.
The rear seat is located and held in place by the brace. I can...

Re: Stock ammeter and 12V conversion - query
Thanks gents. Good idea, but I don't have the option of a shunt with the hall effect/inductive meter movement.
I will replace the stock ammeter. The reduced current of a 12V system might be a...

Re: Stock ammeter and 12V conversion - query
I reversed the wire in the ammeter when I did the conversion. When I checked the other day the headlamps came on fine brakes too, with only a small wiggle in the needle.
Thinking perhaps a...

Re: Stock ammeter and 12V conversion - query
I haven't had a chance to get my ammeter out yet. I use the guage as a general indication that the system is charging.
Now that the battery (Optima) is charged I pulled on the headlights. The...

Stock ammeter and 12V conversion - query
I recently had a charging system problem on my 41. Car is stock except for a 12V negative earth conversion.
The stock ammeter has the inductive loops on the back of the gauge that the main power...

Lincoln Zephyr valve spring question
I'm doing a refresh on a 59AB (I'm not an engine guy). It's been sitting for a while and has some stuck valves.
It already has 8BA internals - crank, rods valves and pistons.
I ordered a set...

Re: "Re-using" previously torqued head studs
Contemplating a similar problem for an engine that's going in my 41.
The only concern I have about leaving studs in place is its more fiddly to get a clean surface for the head gasket.
