Having issues replacing the rear brakes on the 51 Merc. The original linings were about 2 in in width and the new Raybestos are about 2 1/4 in and I cannot get the hold down spring to compress...

Also I backed the cable off the yoke to get more slack but that didn't help much.

Yes I can't get the spring retracted enough away from the "end plug" to set the cable back onto the parking lever. Any tip is appreciated.

Thanks for the info. is the plate that goes over the anchor pin and sits over the shoes necessary? I know my 64.5 Mustang didn't require have these. It seems that the springs themselves hold the tops...

Reinstalling cooling system. Using NAPA belts 257516 and 257417. Unable to completely tighten the gen/water pump belt. Seems sloppy with extra play.

Have a lead on a decent semi restored 1936 four door sedan. The brakes are original non juice mechanical. Is there a reasonable way to convert to disk or drums?

Here is a pic of a secondary solenoid/relay? on the inner fender that has a main feed wire coming from the starter solenoid.
