Re: Phaeton top rest question

OK, so now, all I have to do is find some way of getting them. I haven't had an account at Snyders for at least 10 years. When they updated their system, leaving everyone to create a new account, I...

Re: sign of the times

I wonder if the traffic cone in the background is the result of one of those guys driving a manual car.

Re: Engine will not crank

If it were, the driver would hear the starter spinning but there would be action. From the OP, I think he got no action at all which leads me to suspect the pinion is jammed in the ring gear.

Re: Phaeton top rest question

Thanks Jim. I note that some of those components are for a Model T. Did they carry the same design forward through 1928/9?

Re: Model B Block Boss on side of block

Thanks, I can see that now. Were they another thing that never went into production?

Re: rebuild speedoeters

I have just installed a "reconditioned" round face speedo in my 1930 CCPU. I don't know who did the job but it is no better accuracy than the one I took out. The previous one read very low, this one...

Re: Model B Block Boss on side of block

Thank you for that picture but what is that thingy on the front of the engine near the generator? The switch on the starter looks to be backwards too.
I wonder whether a vacuum assisted clutch never...

Re: Phaeton top rest question

The silence has been deafening so I guess no one supplies either the top rests or plugs. :(

Re: Blown exhaust gasket and rough idle?

I just fixed one today for a lady friend of mine and my wife's. New copper gaskets properly installed and she couldn't believe how well it went. I was pleased too.
It sounds like your leak is as bad...

Re: charging

IMO, those digital meters are about as useful as fly screen on a submarine. Throw them in the trash.

Re: How many miles should spark plugs last?

The missing one is the one where there is only a hole in the head!!!:)
Seriously, the usual method of shorting out one plug at a time won't work because you are obviously driving (and under load)...

Re: How many miles should spark plugs last?

How certain are you that a plug is causing the miss? There are a number of other possibilities worth investigating.

Re: Water Neck Modification

I like my first born child too much to swap for one of those. Snap on cost BIG $$$ so my home made one will continue to serve, thanks.

Re: Water Neck Modification

Neil. Since installing that outlet, I have recently made a special tool for the nut under the distributor and could use that on the problematic nut under the thermostat probe.
All good, thank you.

Re: How do I test field coils in a starter?

When I convert from 6 to 12 volts, I use the original coils if they are in decent condition. I can't see why you can't use what you have, just reconfigured.

Re: How do I test field coils in a starter?

Neil, the 6 volt windings shown in your first link make it clear (at least to me) that there are two sets of series windings. The second link is not as clear but it's easy to say there are all in...

After reading this, it seems to me that the Thermocure/ Evaporust combination is about the same as our liquid intelligence No 239 product....

Re: How do I test field coils in a starter?

In a starter motor, there are 4 field windings. In a 6 volt starter, you will have 2 sets of two. Each set is made up of 2 windings in series. The two sets are connected in parallel with each other....

Re: Water Neck Modification

I've done both. For my first temperature gauge, I drilled and tapped the outlet at the rear. Later, for another car, I bought one already done but the idiots had put the fitting on the side, directly...

Re: Electronic vs. mechanical 6 volt turn signal flasher

I noticed in his video, Paul quotes a number to identify what globe he was using. Those numbers mean nothing to me (or anyone else I know). Is there a system to them, if so, what is it.
Globes here...

Re: Temperature Gauge Issue

I had one stop working a few years ago. I took it to my local instrument repair shop where they fixed it but it cost as much as a new one.
My advice is "buy a new one".

Re: Fitting Spindle Bolt - King pin in new bushings

But don't leave them too tight. The car will be all over the road and scare the crxp out of you. I'm happy with no discernible play in the bushes and I'm able to turn the king pin by hand.
