Ralph - when I went to all LED (6V, Pos Ground) on my '53 - because the load was so low, I had weird issues that showed up because there wasn't enough load in the circuit.. apparently this is common...

so... it's supposed to be a post you can see the rounded rectangular post in the photo... and it's 350032-S in the parts link.

and the coil wire is supposed to have a flag terminal that goes...

That Coil Wire is technically supposed to be routed underneath the breaker plate (next to the ground wire), but it's a royal PITA (and usually have to take the distributor out) to do it.... but as...

Also the parts books are useful. The 1949-53 Chassis parts manual is available as a pdf on the Lincoln Old Parts store but the body parts manual is not you may need to find a copy on the flea-pay.

re: Brakes - the Mercs had 11" drums compared to the 10"s on the Fords.. with that much braking surface they're going to stop as well as any (non-power) disc setup - plus the adapters and the swap...
