Re: 1962 cruieomatic woes
I had the same problem with my '58 Cruise O Matic, and found that it was about a quart low on fluid [after checking it with the car fully warmed up and idling per the shop manual.] Added a quart of...

Hard Start when hot.
My '58 with a 352 4bbl starts great when cold, but is often hard to start when hot. When cranking, it seems like I have a weak battery, [even though I don't]. The cranking is hesitant, and slow with...

When the roof is in the down [retract position] on my '58 Skyliner, the rear deck lock downs work just fine, but when the roof is up [erect position], the rear deck lid will go down, but the locks...

Re: over heats in Texas
Unclevinny: What radiator did you buy, and did you have any trouble with fan clearance? I'm told that the '58's are unique in that the fan nestles right up to the radiator on the FE's.

Re: over heats in Texas
A quick update on what I've done. I did find an after market shroud, but was cautioned against it as it's made of ABS plastic and can deform or even melt at high under hood temps. In south Texas,...

Re: With or without a thermostat?
54vicky: I've heard that too about the importance of restriction for cooling. I've heard stories of old school racers pulling out the thermostat and installing a washer to get the restriction back....

With or without a thermostat?
Will an engine run cooler without its thermostat? Some say yes because removing the thermostat eliminates any restriction, thus increasing coolant flow through the radiator. Others say it will run...

over heats in Texas
My '58 Skyliner runs cool on even the hottest Texas days as long as I'm moving, but when waiting at a stop light, the temp gauge starts zooming to the right. I've got a 352 FE with a Cruise O Matic...

I sent the Holley back to Summit, and received a full refund under their warranty program even though I was past the 90 day limit. Way to go Summit. I'll be back as a customer. The Edelbrock is...

Final report: We added a 1 inch phenolic spacer and a fuel pressure regulator, and still, no improvement. The brand new Holley flooded every time the engine was turned off. Restarting always...

I'm installing a 1" phenolic spacer and a fuel pressure regulator. I'll report back how it works. Thanks to all for the advice.

Re: flooding
Thanks billwill. Do you mean 2 and 1/2 pounds, using a fuel pressure regulator? And will fuel pressure that low effect performance?

flooding
I have a 58 Retractable with a new Holley 4160 carb that tends to flood when restarting the car when warm. It seems the pressure in the mechanical fuel pump is forcing fuel past the needle valve when...

Chrome headlight doors for a '58
Does anyone know where to get a pair of chrome headlight doors for a '58 Fairlane 500 [Skyliner]? Mine are body colored, which are OK, but the chrome set would really dress it up. Thanks
