Yes, I want to try the overdrive by applying 12 volts from another source as the car is 6v. I just don't want to ruin the relay if it cannot stand 12v.

I know that this is simple, but did you check to be sure that the distributor rotor is rotating? Cam drives have been known to break.

6volt solenoid swap

I have a '50 Ford overdrive that has a 12volt solenoid and need to swap it for a 6volt. Works on 12 volts but 6 volts only the holding coil activates. Any interested parties?
