Question Ranger transmission

I removed a Ford 5 speed trans from a 1985 Ford Ranger pickup. Is this similar to the ones used behind the flatheads as an upgrade. It I D's as a build code 1-8283 ser# E 77A7003 AFA

I have several sections (none the same) that are rusted badly. I figured to remove some from each and replace the bad ones. etc.
