Re: Hi compression head and stock ignition

I also have a 5.5 HC head, been running it for almost 14 years now with everything else stock, except lightened flywheel and v-8 clutch. I adjust the spark lever all the time as I’m driving...it’s...

Re: Smooth Shifting The Model A

When downshifting to second one needs to remember the huge gap in ratios between second and 3rd or high gear. That is why, unless you are going quite slow, you will need to give it a healthy...

Re: rumble seat ins & outs

I had a coupe with a rumble seat back in the 60's, and took several passengers for rides then. I would suggest limiting it to somewhat younger folks, who are still agile, wear tennis shoes, and have...

Re: 1931 model A performance

Gosh, sounds like folks likely drove 60-65 very frequently....probably faster than most drive them today....I sure didn’t know that

Re: The 1930 Deluxe Tudor Sedan...

I am guessing that not all of the ones converted were done 100% correct....I would think it was common to add the cowl lights, but many other features might have not been done. Not sure if the...

Re: 1931 model A performance

Given that there were no freeways in those days, plus lots of older, much slower cars, even though a Model A could go 65, I tend to doubt that was seen much in every day driving.

Re: Gas additive

Many add Marvel Mystery Oil to each tank of gas....long history of it being used....4 oz per 10 gallons....

Re: White crap in carb bowl - Pic

There are thousands of Model A’s in California, and all have no choice but to use the ethanol gas. I would prefer regular gas, but after 13 years of using the so-called “crap gas” I have had zero...

Re: How Far In One Day?

Depends on if you are asking me, or my wife. When we drove from Orange County to Yosemite years ago, she said it was about all she could take....and that was in our somewhat comfortable Town Sedan. ...

Re: Interior Door Panels on Deluxe Closed Cars

Just to clarify, I bought my car restored, and the gentleman I bought it from took it totally apart, so those door panels were from LB, and installed. I’m not sure if he cut or shortened them....not...

Re: Interior Door Panels on Deluxe Closed Cars

Looking at my Town Sedan closer, that 4” or so carpeted strip does not have playwood behind it....peeling it back slightly it appears to be applied right over the metal lower part of the door. The...

Re: Ever have your engine die at a stop light?

Years ago, I spent the money and bought a properly re-built and tested Zenith carb, and have never had any issues with it....never has stalled coming to a stop, doesn’t leak gas either, even with the...

Re: Interior Door Panels on Deluxe Closed Cars

My 1930 Town Sedan has that carpet style trim on the bottom of the door panels. Here is a quick photo taken with my phone, showing what it looks like. This was supplied by LB many years ago. Hope...

Re: Resonant Rattle

If your car has engine pans, a broken attachment ear can vibrate badly and make a lot of noise. Happened on mine...2 were broken.....fixed them and no more noise.

Re: 3.27 ring and pinion, anyone using one ?

Another thing to remember.....higher rear end gearing will allow higher cruising speeds, but at the cost of slower acceleration, especially in town. I’ve tried leaving my Mitchell in high range and...

Re: 3.27 ring and pinion, anyone using one ?

Since I never carry 3 passengers in front I’ve never found the extra lever a problem. It’s great we have choices.....to each his own....I love my Mitchell and the versatility it gives me.

Re: Totaly "Restored" 1st Sport Coupe sold in San Francisco

I agree with the strict definition of restored, but I would also offer that lots and lots of Model A owner’s that belong to clubs, and have Model A’s that have been very nicely “refurbished” in many...

Re: Totaly "Restored" 1st Sport Coupe sold in San Francisco

For some reason did not paint the engine in Ford green.....to me, that really detracts. Lots of mods, but looks very nice....

Re: Hubs for new cast drums

Randy’s brake products are excellent and many here have used them. I just bought new drums and hubs last month from him, along with new shoes and linings.....
