Question Re: Why do Flathead V8 Blocks Crack?

It's the first time I've read about this but for what it's worth, the Canadian 8BA blocks we have here in New Zealand seem much more prone to cracked valve seats than earlier Canadian blocks. C59A...

Re: 1947 supercharged pickup

And of those eight carbs, six were recalled and melted down by Ford because they also had shares in Big Oil and it wasn't in their interests for the 200 MPG technology to become widespread. This...

Smile Re: '35 with juice brakes.

Thanks V8COOPMAN. I did say I drive my cars hard sometimes and this picture shows one of those times. It might explain why my aftermarket king pin bushes don't last long and even perhaps why spindles...

Re: '35 with juice brakes.

I haven't taken note of the brand(s) of king pin bushes that have had short service lives. It's something I've observed over decades and the only thing I can be sure of is none of them were Ford...

Re: Greasing front V8 wheel bearings

Packing just the bearings is the right way to do it. Putting grease in the hub only wastes grease. I'll bet those trailers with nipples were boat trailers. Some boaties will pump grease into their...

Re: '35 with juice brakes.

I have that same odd combination on my '36 for no better reason than they were the first left-and-right set I could find that passed the Magnaflux inspection. That was after rejecting 6 others....

Re: Axle shaft threaded end (a real thinker!)

I agree with V8COOPMAN. It's probably the drum that's out. The bent thread in the pictures looks like it's been caused by someone beating on the end of the axle to break the taper loose. The pin hole...

Re: Amazing flathead!!

Ron, I'd be interested to hear about the EFI systems you've built. Mine wasn't very successful to begin with either and it just about had me tearing my hair out trying to get it to run. I came within...

Re: Amazing flathead!!

It was a lot of work putting the injectors in the valley, so much so that I didn't put them there to start with, even though I knew it was the right place for them. I just wasn't ready to grapple...

Re: Amazing flathead!!

Thanks for the kind words, fellas. As somebody has already said, I didn't build that EFI setup to impress people, just to make my engine run better. If some people like it then that's a bonus. I...

Re: Amazing flathead!!

Hey! that's my engine you're talking about. I just stumbled on this thread and was surprised to see it's about the engine I ran in my '36 coupe for 40-odd years, or at least the EFI iteration of it.
