Oil in 8BA

I have not changed the oil in the 1950 Ford with 8BA engine for a long time, several years. There is a lot of talk about what oil to use. Could someone give me a refresher course? The engine uses...

Idle Jets

I have a 1950 Ford with an standard 8BA, 239CID, with a 2 barrel Holley 94. When I set the idle I use a vacuum gauge. When setting the idle jets I open them until the vacuum reaches the highest...

Re: '50 Ford hood release question

I had the same problem with my '50. I removed the "spear" and put a length of heavier spring inside the larger factory spring. The additional spring just needs to fit over the "spear". With the...

Re: PCV on 8BA

I tested the PCV valve today and found the valve is sticking open. I stopped the vacuum with my thumb and then unstopped the vacuum and the vacuum went from 18 inches to 16 inches. I turned the car...

Re: PCV on 8BA

Jack E/NJ, does the chrysler chrome cap have wire mesh inside? If it does it would certainly filter out dust if the mesh is oiled. Air moving toward the engine air filter would be filtered the same...

Re: PCV on 8BA

V8 Bob, I think what Jack E/NJ is trying to do is take care of fumes that drift out of the filler tube when the car is at idle. At idle the draft tube is not in use because the car is not in motion,...

Re: PCV on 8BA

When you say pump stand pipe do you mean the oil filler tube?

Re: PCV on 8BA

Jack E/NJ, do you have a part # for the Chrysler hose-barb filler cap? That sounds like what I want to do. I do not like messing with the vacuum.

Re: PCV on 8BA

My 8BA has a standard Holly 94, I get the vacuum from the windshield wiper port right above the intake manifold. I bought the PCV system from the one recommended on Ford Barn, the vender is Western...

Re: PCV on 8BA

I read about others installing a PCV system and swear by it, taking the fumes away. Is there a way to connect the valve without losing vacuum? Does that mean the road draft tube is the best way on...

PCV on 8BA

I connected the PCV valve and am doing some testing. Prior to adding the valve the vacuum was running around 18 inches. After putting on the valve the vacuum drops to around 5 inches. The only...

I have a 1950 with a stock 8Ba with a column shift, 3 speed w/overdrive. The overdrive works although the kick down switch may not work. Don't know because I have not tried it. The real question...

Re: Ford Hood Latch Spring

I solved the problem by installing an auxiliary coil spring over the spike with the knob but smaller than the large coil spring, that is inside the large coil spring. Now the hood pops up and the...

Re: Ford Hood Latch Spring

51 Merc-CC, please reread my message. My problem is not the safety catch. The large spring is weak and does not release the hood so the safety latch will catch. Thanks anyway.

Ford Hood Latch Spring

The hood release on my 1950 Ford Custom does not work correctly because the large spring above the spike with the knob on the end is weak and will not push the hood up so the safety latch is...

Carb Spacer

I have installed a pcv system that uses the wiper port but am not satisfied with this setup. I researched other systems and it seems that using vacuum from a different source may work better. The...

Re: Foamy Residue

Thank you guys, I think my problem was a clogged oil filler cap which did not allow for the draft tube to do it's work. I understand the system now. I have owned the car for a number of years and...

Re: Foamy Residue

In my last post I failed to mention the oil is clean, no moisture on the dip stick, and there are no bubbles in the radiator when the car is running. I do not think there is an antifreeze leak into...

Re: Foamy Residue

I ran the car today, did not drive it, just warmed it up in the shop, and inspected the moisture coming out of the tail pipes. The moisture was clear, no antifreeze odor. And, the oil fill breather...

Re: Foamy Residue

There is no smell of anti-freeze from the tail pipes, the oil on the dipstick is clear, yesterday I soaked the oil filler cap, seemed to be dirty, possibly was not vented if it was too dirty. Thank...
