Re: Rear spring shackle installation
Just did this a couple of weeks ago. Keep spreading the spring, it will line up. Also, be sure you’re not hung up on the shock ball on the axle housing. Then spread the spring some more. It gets...

Re: Cowl light follow up
A couple of years ago I converted a set of cowl lights using the conversion set available from the vendors. The biggest issue I had was that the two filament bulb supplied in the set did not fit in...

Re: Florida Drivers
Gonna be in Raleigh late September for a wedding, then spending a couple of weeks on the Outer Banks assuming no hurricanes, and then the Smokies (unfortunately, we're flying not driving the A). I'll...

Re: Florida Drivers
When I was in high school I was night and weekend manager of a gas station. We were on a corner lot with a stop sign on the corner. Early each morning a jerk in a sports car used to come hauling a**...

Re: Block Restamp
Last time I did this I used a 3 lb hand sledge on an engine on its side in the engine stand, and gave it a single emphatic *whack*. Too light and you won't penetrate, then when you retry you will...

Re: Installing cowl lights
Bob - my unmolested '30 Town Sedan has blocks. In the case of PaddyR's 31 PU, unless he has a pretty rare Deluxe PU, I'm not sure that cowl lights were original with or without blocks.

Re: Grease fitting
No, 1/8" pipe thread tap is quite a bit larger than 1/8" diameter as BobC suggests.
Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but aren't the press-in fittings 5/16" diameter hole? But you need to be...

Re: Grease fitting
There are two ways the grease fittings go in - the ones that press in, and the threaded ones. I don’t recall off the top of my head which the front spindles are, but if they are threaded it is 1/8-27...

Re: Installing shock links
The bad news is, yeah, it’s a bit of a PITA to install the tubular links. The good news is that you only need to do it once. If for some reason you need to remove either the shock or the suspension...

Re: Recommended Turning Signal Switch
Werner - are you checking the USPS number at USPS.com or at stamps.com? Bert’s uses the latter as his interface, but I’ve had it not update as well as usps.com. Either way, it will show up!

Re: Recommended Turning Signal Switch
Bert’s automated invoicing system will only go as far as telling you that a label has been prepared, but somewhere in their documentation they will give you a tracking number. After that you need to...

Re: Car Is Shrinking........
The shift tower will come off easily without removing the transmission. It does take a special tool to safely remove the shift lever from the tower, though. That way you can grab onto the lower...

Re: Engine Number
The way I look at it, the owner is stamping a piece of metal. How that is interpreted is a different issue. It’s no different than adding a stamped number on the underside of a frame member, where it...

I believe this is the one I installed several years ago in my '30 CCPU (gone now). It is a bit clunky, and has to be diddled into its mounted position so you don't smack your knee on it getting in...

When I rode motorcycles on the open road I used to figure that 80% of the people didn't see me, and the other 20% were aiming for me. Served me well, never got hit in 50+ years of riding.
