Re: Tight crank gear
I have used the propane powered grill outside to heat things. Avoid pounding on the gear put use a series of bolts and washers to press it on. Pounding may damage the trust bearing in the engine. ...

I love my Burtz engine. I have no hesitation about driving the car anywhere. I have the original engine for the car sitting in my basement shop. It will go with the car when I sell it, in 2044. I...

Re: New Shocks vs Rebuilt Shocks

Re: Cleaning the radiator
A new radiator is a wonderful thing. If not that, then a rebuilt one is nice. You may have to go to Charlotte to find a radiator shop. I doubt there is one in the Smokys.

Re: Doodlebug Granny
No doubt had a granny gear.
Lots of places here in North Carolina did not have roads in the early part of the 20th century. Tractors or doodle bugs or horses and wagons were the only way to get...

Re: Steering Wheel Slop
Arefftx, There should be no slop in the steering wheel. Well, perhaps 1/4 inch max, but try for zero. That is with the wheels pointed straight ahead. Slack is normal when making a turn. 5 to 7...

I am also interested methods because I am planning the same on my Fordor. I was thinking of using a floor jack and some timber. It is just me, no helpers. I just have to lift it high enough to get...

Re: Water Pump Options
The original water pumps always leak a few drops and need constant tightening. Special water proof grease has to be used. I really like my leakless water pump.
I saw somewhere that the corners...

Nice haul. It is always nice to have spares. I would be looking for a new place to live if my wife saw me bring all that stuff home.

Re: weird stuff
The piston design was changed several times during the production of the Model A. The Service Bulletins talk about this at pages 312 and 339. As Ursus said, the round pistons had the slots and the...

Re: Sticking valves?
If you look at photos or movies of race cars at the early part of the last century, you will see a cloud of oil smoke behind each car. Oil was mixed with the gasoline. The early cars did not have...

Re: Knocking. Valves?
Could be valves. Could be something else. Try slowing down the engine by retarding the spark. If the noise goes away then the ignition is too far advanced. Or you may be able to better tell where...

Re: Sticking valves?
How many miles on the engine? It may be time for new rings, lapping the valves, and taking up the bearings. Back in the day, this was usually done at around 25,000 miles. It can be done in the car...

Re: Seized motor/potentially overheated
Take the head off or look in the cylinders with a bore scope to see if there is scuffing on the walls. If the pistons get really hot they can expand and scuff. If that does not solve the issue,...
