Re: 28 A, Bad shake... guidance please...

I sort of do the opposite and don't jack it up but leave it on the ground to check for looseness.
Have your wife or sweetie sit in the drivers seat and turn the steering wheel back and forth to...

Re: Oh shoot...

I'd be inclined to load it on a trailer and take it to someone that can weld a washer and nut to it and get it out that way.

Re: Oil Pan Gaskets

I put a small bit of RTV under the flat copper washers and under the heads of the bolts for the oil return pipe. Just a little extra insurance to prevent a leak.

Re: Oil Pan Gaskets

If it is the oil return pipe leaking and not the oil pan then for sure just change the gaskets for the oil return pipe and don't mess with the oil pan. Wipe everything clean and check with a bright...

Re: main seal leak

Am I'm reading your posts correctly and your leak is at the front of the engine?
If so it might not be your front seal leaking but could be oil getting past the right front motor mount bolt as it...

Re: What wheels are on this car?

Someone put a set screw through the side of the two Dodge Brothers caps to hold them to the hubs. Many interesting things happen to these old cars over the years.

Re: What wheels are on this car?

Re: What wheels are on this car?

Wish I would have paid more attention to the wheels and had taken pictures of each of them but I was paying more attention to the engine mechanicals. I was assuming they were all the same but now I'm...

What wheels are on this car?

Helping a couple that are wanting to get their A back on the road after a 40 some year slumber.
Can anyone tell me what wheels are on this car and if they are okay to use?

Re: Do you take your Model A to the local self serve car wash?

I don't see an issue if you are careful to keep water out of places you don't want it to go like around your doors and into the interior. Keep a towel with you to dry things off during and...

Re: top radiator hose

To find a leak in that area toilet paper is your friend. Dry it off good and spend time dabbing fresh dry paper on the suspect spots until it shows on the paper. You will find it.

Re: Stymied

Remove the gas cap to take the possibility of a plugged vent out of the equation.

Is there a modern inline fuel filter installed? Remove it if you do.

Does the gas line flow down hill all the...

Re: Holes in frame rail

You may want to measure your frame to check for straightness before you do the final setting of the rivets.

Re: Points don't fit

The fixed side of the point block will need to be moved some to align the points. Put a mark on the lower plate at each mounting screw to indicate the direction it needs to move. Remove the points...

Re: Proper Operating Temp?

Pull the cap off of the radiator and stick a dial meat thermometer into the coolant and drive it that way. Stop often and check the temperature until you are comfortable with how it is running...

I ran a couple of small gauge wires that are tied into the turn...

Re: runs rough after head gasket replaced

Not sure you need to go down the leak down / compression testing route quite yet.

If it was running better than it is now before the head gasket replacement there was something that was disturbed...

Re: Multiple Oil Leaks after sitting?

I'm not thinking the the weight of the oil is the most likely cause of your problem.
Perhaps you are running the oil level too high.
Most it seems and I am one of them run the oil at the mid point...

Bill Williamson once said to "drive at about 20 mph in second gear on flat ground, set the GAV where it runs best and then don't diddle with it"

Re: Overheating 1930 Model A

Glad your gaining on it.
When you flush the radiator most do so to try to get out rust. First use Simple Green or some dishwasher detergent to get the grease (usually from years of excess greasing...

Re: runs rough after head gasket replaced

Did you pull the manifolds off? Check the gaskets and torque on them. Also check that the carburetor is snugged up to the intake manifold.

Re: Squeaking near front crank pulley

Had the exact same situation on my truck that you are describing. The two bolts securing the front motor mount were slightly loose. Tightened them and the noise went away.
