Re: New to me 1931 Coupe

Good idea to drive it around awhile. My dad and I drove ours for a year before we had any serious work done. Finally had the front end and brakes Rebuilt. Drives like a new car but we sure had fun...

Re: Model A trailer hitch

That's what I figured, too. We used all new hardened hardware to install it. We've been using it to haul my father-in-law's scooter on a platform and it works great. I plan to put a riser receiver on...

Re: Model A trailer hitch

I bought the one Mac's sells for our '31 Coupe. It replaces the strut. Took about an hour to install. Not technically a trailer hitch, it's billed as a flag holder. We use it to mount a platform for...

Re: Double Clutching question

I've tried it both ways. I'll stick with double clutching.

Re: Best available ampmeters

Exactly. And, when I first got my A, I had it down to the mechanic. He was positioning the car for a tow back to the house (it ran but wasn't drivable). When he shutnthe engine off, the cutout did...

Re: Best available ampmeters

When the parts guy only charged me 8 dollars for the ammeter, I assumed it was of questionable (ie; stale). So, when I get the occasional one that the pointer falls off, it's no real surprise. I...

Re: Preheating of the engine

Geez, I'm sure glad I live in Southern California. The temperature rarely gets below 50 degrees in the winter time.

Re: Best available ampmeters

Nothing better than an eight dollar ammeter. Keep one on the shelf for when you burn one up.

Re: Body number. Where have you found it?

Some of us enjoy the history and solving the "mystery". I'm currently trying to track down the build location of my 31 Coupe. For some of us, it's the fun of it.

Regards,

Re: Is it possible to lubricate the speedometer head?

When my dad and I installed a new speedometer cable on our '31 Deluxe Coupe, the speedometer whined like a banshee. I put up with it for a couple of months until it just became unbearable. Yesterday...

Re: poor gas milage question

Man, if you drive like that around here, you'll get run over. So far, I appear to be getting 10.5 mpg, stop and go (mostly stop) traffic.

Re: Here's a first-ever gas story

Gas has always been higher in Europe than the U.S. The trade-off is better mass transit and intra country transit. I've never driven a European road but, from the looks of them on TV, they look in...

Re: Why does engine run best with GAV almost closed

So, I gues the next question is, how do you know it's running right. I notice a difference from a full turn to only a quarter turn open but not much (if any) between a quarter turn open and fully...

Re: Here's a first-ever gas story

Just remember, this is the company that dumps gas in the ocean every few years. Can't complain, though. Their stock made me a ton of money when I was an employee.

Re: Our new Baby...

Hey, Mitch, thanks. That owners manual taught me a bit more about starting and driving my baby.

Re: Emergency Tow Insurance vs pay for tow

I'll ditto the AAA membership. Also have them insure my '31 Deluxe Coupe. It's a daily driver, not a trailer queen. I have RV and Motorcycle. I used it three times on the A in the last two months....

Ismthat for aesthetic reasons or is there a practical side to steel?

Re: The Gas Tank?

I just got my '31 Coupe back from the mechanic (had a timing gearnreplaced) today and he mentioned the fine particle rust clogging my jets. As an interim fix, he suggested an inline filter. Of course...

Re: Curious about the price of real gas.

Part of the reason octane ratings are a couple points lower in NM is the altitude. Seems 86 in your state is equivalent to 87 out here in Whackofornia. In any case, the A seems to run fine on...
