I was taught that those are called helper shocks.
When your springs get weak it is easier and cheaper to install helper shocks instead of replacing the springs.
What we called shocks had one...

If the large end of the egg shape is the correct part of the original hole, I would weld a little bit to the small end of the egg shape and then sculpt it back to circular with a rat tail file.

It has been over 50 years since I sat in Geometry class, but I believe, if using approximate numbers, (for each 2" you lower the front axle) the oil level at the back bearing would be about 3/32"...

If I remember correctly:
The Air Force taught that the Electrons moved from the negative to the positive.
The Navy taught that the Holes ( or vacancies) moved from the positive to the negative.

I was going to try this, but when I flipped the frame, I just put my (sufficiently large) body weight on the frame,and the top of the frame broke which removed most of the sag.
A plumbers wrench...
