Re: Help! Metal Valve Stems
The flat side is just regular file like you could use on metal. The top is rounded and raspy. I only use the flat side. They are super easy once you've done about 50 of them.

Re: Batteries completely discharging
Do you have a pop-out (original type) ignition switch? If so, it is possible that the switch is shorting the hot to ground when off. Feel the coil after the car is off for several minutes. If the...

Re: Distributor Cap Advance Lever Slot
Excellent question, Jim!
I just measured an original cap. The slot is 1-1/32" wide.
Here is an original cap and a good quality repro next to each other. The original is on the right side of...

Re: Distributor Cap Advance Lever Slot
What about if you have one of the repro caps where the opening is not wide enough? The poor repro opening is only 3/4 the width of the factory cap opening.

Re: getting into the Rumble Seat
There is no safe way (to my knowledge) of getting in or out of a rumble seat unless you stand on the seat. I ask (demand) riders remove shoes first.

Re: Distributor Cap Advance Lever Slot
That slot is indeed there to act as a stop at each end of travel of the upper plate. If there were no stops, it could be possible to over-rotate the upper plate and it could pop out of the slot in...

Re: engine slows when advance timing
Other possibility is the distributor upper plate. Some of the repro plates position the points in a location so that when the points just open (to cause the coil to produce the spark), the rotor is...

Re: engine slows when advance timing
Never assume the #1 piston is at TDC when the timing pin finds the dimple on the timing gear. Pull the #1 cylinder spark plug and use a flashlight to look in and verify.

Re: Condenser Capacity
Using FETs to trigger a field breakdown (that's what makes the spark) in a coil, some FETs have capacitance already, so the capacitance needed for the "LC circuit" is minimal. A small surface mount...

The weird part is, the actual value of the capacitor (condenser) isn't nearly as critical as it's leakage (acting like a resistor). The only time you would have to increase the capacitance is when...
